NFL Fantasy Teams: AFC East Intro

What if you took the all-time best players from each of the 8 NFL divisions and paired them up against each other on a neutral field? Don't think about it any longer, because we are doing it! In this first installment of the Battle of the NFL Divisions, we introduce the all-time AFC East roster.

6 Super Bowl titles. 16 AFC championships. 35 Hall of Famers.

Pride of the Division: 1972 Miami Dolphins
Sure, we can say they played sub-par competition that season with their back-up QB, barely scraped through the Playoffs, then only managed to win the Super Bowl by one score; however, after over 42 years now, nobody has managed to equal their feat. Enter the 2007 New England Patriots-- nah, we will come back to them later.

Division Scar They Cannot Remove: O.J. Simpson
We ultimately put feelings aside and left Simpson's merits solely on the playing field in terms of roster selection, but yeah, this one hurt the entire league. He still has his Hall of Fame credentials and his on-the-field reputation, but that is about it.

Team Captain: Tom Brady
Not only will we get into his being one of the greatest players in history, but Brady is also a born leader. He does not hesitate to bark at whoever may not be listening to his assignments.

God's Perfect AFC East Athlete: Randy Moss
Ran a 4.25 in the 40-yard dash, stood 6'4", and solidly filled that out with 210 pounds of pure talent. He also excelled in basketball, baseball, and track at every level he attempted. He was twice named West Virginia State Player of the Year in basketball, and he played along side future-semi great Jason Williams. The point being here is that this is the one dude who would have been a hall-of-famer no matter what he chose to play or what position to play. Imagine if he had cared.

Best Owner: Robert Kraft, New England Patriots

Best Stadium: Gillette Stadium, New England Patriots

Best Fans: New York Jets

These guys are rarely in contention, yet their fans show up everywhere. They are most notorious for disrupting the annual NFL Draft. J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!!

Biggest "Could Have Been:" The 2007 New England Patriots win Super Bowl XLII and rid the world of the 1972 Miami Dolphins.
Larry Csonka's scowl, Don Shula's tears, and a simply never-ending tale of tales from a newly-inflated Boston ego. These were what unfolded for the world if and when the inevitable happened...only...it didn't. So what would have happened if the game had gone the way we all know it should have? First, it would have given us all a comforting justification in kind of removing those '72 Dolphins from the pinnacle we have held them to for over 40 years. Even the most die-hard Dolphin fans know in their hearts about all the breaks that '72 team had. No way they could touch any Super Bowl champion over the past 25 years, let alone even the '71 Cowboys. Second, it would have moved Brady at least right along-side of Joe Montana for going 4-0 in Super Bowls. In fact, he didn't have nearly the quality teams Montana did, nor did he have Rice, so he probably would have been even higher. Belichick would have likewise moved up with Chuck Noll as being the only 4-0 Super Bowl coaches. Instead we must keep seeing geriatric holdovers popping champagne every year Peyton Manning loses his first game.

MVP: Tom Brady, New England Patriots
Just over Bruce Smith

An Open Letter to: Joe Namath
Dear Joe, you did your part. You not only paved your place in the eternal bonds of NFL lore with your guaranteed victory over the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III, but you brought legitimacy to the AFL-NFL merger. Without you, things might not have panned out quite as well for the future of the league. Having offered these words of admiration, I must now apologize to you for leaving you off my all-time AFC East roster. I only had three open positions, and, well, you can just click on the link like the rest of them and see the horrors for yourself.

Head Coach: Bill Belichick;  Offensive Coordinator: Don Shula; Defensive Coordinator: Bill Parcells
I know. It's so weird my putting Belichick OVER his mentor, Parcells. 5 AFC Championships, 3 Super Bowls, and a sort of perfect season are what puts him ahead of Shula and Tuna.
