NFL Fantasy Teams: AFC South Roster (Defensive Backs)

It's all bad news for the AFC South. Their entire Secondary ranks dead last among the divisions. Their Cornerbacks-- dead last. Their Safeties-- dead last. Manning and crew will be busy trying to just keep their team in this super tournament.

AFC South Starting Cornerback: Aaron Glenn, Houston Texans

Asante Samuel, one of the most prolific cornerbacks of all-time, did not make any of the NFL all-time divisional rosters. He has had great careers in both the AFC East and NFC East, yet just did not quite measure up to the greatest players in the respective histories of those divisions. He would start head-and-shoulders above anybody in this crew. Let's look at Glenn, the #1 corner on this squad: 3 Pro Bowls, 3 All-Pro awards, 41 picks, and 6 nice touchdowns to go along with that. Those 6 TDs do put him in a tie for 16th place all-time, but the fact that these numbers can get him into the #1 DB slot is just scary for this team.

AFC South Starting Cornerback: Johnathan Joseph, Houston Texans

As of now, Joseph only has 2 Pro Bowls and an All-Pro on his record, but he is only in his 8th year now. He is lightning fast, and if he picks things up a notch or two and can stay healthy, he just might put together a Hall of Fame career. He still has a lot of work to do.

Back-up Cornerback: Ashley Ambrose, Indianapolis Colts

Ambrose played in one Pro Bowl and, that same year (1996), was put on the All-Pro roster; however, that came when he was a Bengal. So why is he here? Well, he is here because the AFC South isn't exactly Darrell Green Academy, and his 42 career interceptions stand out in the analysis of this division's dismal history.

Back-up Cornerback: Rashean Mathis, Jacksonville Jaguars

Mathis made a Pro Bowl and an All-Pro squad, which should count as 3x that many since he is a Jaguar.

AFC Starting Safety: Ken Houston, Tennessee Titans (Houston Oilers)

Shocking number: Houston made a ridiculous 12 Pro Bowls during his under-the-radar career. Although he only made two All-Pro teams, he finished his Hall of Fame career with an amazing 9 touchdowns and 898 interception return yards off of 49 picks. Those are all good for 5th, 18th, and 40th all-time. Houston also found spots on both the NFL 1970s All-Decade team and the NFL 75th-Anniversary All-Time team.

AFC Starting Safety: Bob Sanders, Indianapolis Colts

Shocking Numbers: 6 interceptions and 3.5 sacks. These are Sanders' career totals... So why is he on this list? Well, he made 2 Pro Bowls and 2 All-Pro teams while earning a reputation as one of the league's best safeties and hardest hitters. He helped lead the Colts to a Super Bowl victory, but his greatest achievement was being named AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2007.

Back-up Safety: Fred Glick, Tennessee Titans (Houston Oilers)

Glick was an AFL All-Star in 1962, 1963, and 1964. In 1963 set an AFL single season record with 12 interceptions. In a 1962 game against the Buffalo Bills was credited with an incredible 27 tackles, which may also be an AFL single game record. He made 3 Pro Bowls and an All-Pro roster.

Back-up Safety: Antoine Bethea, Indianapolis Colts

Bethea, who seems to still have half his career left to play out, is a 2-time Pro-Bowler, Super Bowl Champion, and has already amassed over 800 tackles.
